TO KNOW
Polysorbate 60 is an ethoxylated compound made from ethylene oxide, sorbitol and stearic acid (this fatty acid is a derivative of vegetable oil such as rapeseed or palm oil). The ingredient, soluble in water and alcohols, is used in cosmetics as a non-ionic emulsifier. Given its polluting manufacturing, Polysorbate 60 is not authorized organically.
Note that Polysorbate 60 is used in food under the name E435, as an emulsifier and stabilizer.

Its functions (INCI)
- Emulsifying agent: Promotes the formation of intimate mixtures between immiscible liquids by modifying the interfacial tension (water and oil)
- Surfactant: Reduces the surface tension of cosmetics and contributes to the uniform distribution of the product during use
This ingredient is present in 2.31% of cosmetics.
